In the late fall, things are getting chilly in Switzerland. November is not precisely autumn nor winter. Popular ski resorts in Zermatt, St. Moritz, Davos and Verbier, are polishing their slopes and getting ready for the grand opening of the upcoming holiday season. At the same time, many lower hiking trails are still open. Still, weather conditions might not be promising: it’s never too clear what November has in store for us. Basel
It doesn’t mean the Swiss organizers haven’t thought up some warm and cheerful gatherings. For example, the Autumn Fair, i.e. Herbstmesse in Basel, is already in full swing and carries on until 07 Nov 2021. So give it a try for some wild fairground rides and delicious culinary treats.
Geneva
Meanwhile, on 05 Nov 2021 will be open 27th Geneva International Film Festival.
The latest edition of the GIFF is paying tribute to the diversity of fluid and ever-evolving audiovisual production, offering up an intriguing and original line-up focusing on film productions, TV series and digital creation. This year’s programme consists of 150 works that boast innovative narrative forms, formal courage and radicality. Also, this year the Geneva Award will be entrusted to Italian director Luca Guadagnino. So, film lovers, you can make a trip out of it.
Ticino
If you haven’t seen it yet, seize the last chance to see the remarkably curated Raffaello 3D – The Divine exhibition in Bellinzona, which will be open until 07 Nov 2021. Suppose you are a lover of art and technology at the same time. In that case, this is an extraordinary immersive multimedia experience dedicated to the great Urbino’s painter, commemorating the 500th anniversary of the artist’s death. Visitors can follow the life and work of one of the greatest painters of the Italian Renaissance step by step, from the moment of birth in 1483 until his early death at Rome Papal Court in 1520. By comparing Raffaello’s works with those of other Renaissance masters – Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Bramante – this exhibition also provides a broad introduction to one of the most critical periods of art history and its importance for humanity in general.
An accurate 3D tribute to the great artist that breaks down traditional museum boundaries is exhibited in Castello di Sasso Corbaro, the highest of the three 13th-century castles is known as the Castles of Bellinzona. The sole medieval military complex in the Alpine region is one of Ticino’s main attractions and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. You shouldn’t miss the opportunity!
A different kind of set-up is expecting you in Lugano, from 3rd until 22 Nov, at the international gourmet festival S. Pellegrino Sapori Ticino, one of the most prestigious food and wine festivals in Europe. This year’s event is announced as” Ticino meets the Regions of Italy”.
