The Swiss have a strong desire to travel
In nine countries, Allianz Partners surveyed 9,000 people, with the outcome being that the Swiss have a strong desire to travel!
The insurer surveyed nine thousand people in nine countries between November 2nd and 9th – before the spread of the Omikron variant of the Coronavirus and the subsequent travel restrictions that followed. Even if the results reveal a specific insight into people’s general enthusiasm for travel, they are not giving the complete picture cautiously at present. The Swiss have a strong desire to travel
Swiss vs the rest …
It is more likely that the Swiss will travel abroad this winter than other Europeans or Americans. Allianz Partners’ international Travel Confidence survey ranks the Swiss first with 38%. In second place are the Dutch people with 31%. On the other end of the spectrum are France with 15% and the USA with 18%.
Switzerland, for instance, has interesting regional differences. According to the survey, Geneva and Zurich have over 40% of people willing to travel. On the other hand, the eastern Swiss tend to be reluctant to travel, with only 27% planning to travel abroad this winter.
With age, the desire to travel abroad changes as well. More than half (57%) of young adults (18 to 24) want to cross the border. However, less than one-quarter (23%) of those over 65 want to do so. The Swiss have a strong desire to travel
About 17% of Swiss do not want to go on vacation due to the ongoing pandemic compared to 30% in Germany.
Survey results indicate that Swiss holiday budgets are in the middle of the pack. Planned amounts average CHF 1735 (EUR 1647), only 9% of those surveyed raised more than CHF 3000 for their holidays abroad. The US ranks first in spending on the winter holidays with USD 3382 (EUR 2993). Similarly, the British are far ahead of the Swiss at GBP 1813 (EUR 2216).
CEO Olaf Nink of Allianz Partners Switzerland is pleased with the result, mainly regarding the local industry. The desire for the Swiss to travel is increasing again, and it gives an optimistic view for 2022.
