There is a shortage of staff in Graubünden hotels and restaurants. Due to sick employees, some hotels and more than a dozen restaurants had to close down entirely or close some areas.
A primary reason for the understaffing is a lack of personnel due to Corona-related recruitment problems. In addition, quarantine requirements due to massive infections during the holiday season.
Staff shortage occurred during the holidays when tourists numbers in the region increased compared to the previous winter season.
Changes and problems like in Graubünden are becoming probably widely spread around Switzerland, creating a higher demand for temporary employment. Therefore, temporary employment agencies Coople and Adecco face a high demand for staff from Swiss companies.

While several hotels in the mountains closed due to a lack of staff, Zurich has the opposite issue. Omikron leaves the hotel staff with too little to do.
The Zurich hotels were almost back to pre-crisis levels by November. They began hiring more employees and increasing bookings. After Omikron, bookings collapsed again. As a result, the hotels in the Zurich region are currently only occupied between 20 and 40%. Many Zurich hotel workers are back on short-term work. With government support in place, there are no active layoffs expected.
