Here are the dates and happenings awaiting your attention—The best Carnival Parades around Switzerland. And do not worry if you miss any event during February; places are continuing the celebrations in March.
Bulle: Carnaval de Bulle – Feb 18 – 20, 2022
Four Guggen bands will leave their mark on Bulle over three days. Since 1905, when the Carnaval de Bulle was inaugurated as a fund-raising event, since than it is a traditional event in the city. The Carnival de Bulle has a rich program and events not to miss.
Rapperswil Carnival – Feb 18 – 20, 2022
The City of Roses will become the City of Confetti after skipping last year for the first time since 1975. Rapperswil Fasnacht kicks off at 8 pm on the Fishmarkt Square (Sauwleuthen Empfang). There will be a carnival parade for children on Saturday, followed by the main parade on Sunday.
Zug : Zuger Fasnacht – Feb 24, 2022
Carnival, known here as “Fasnacht“, is considered a highlight of Zug’s year. The week begins on the Thursday before Ash Wednesday, called “Schmudo” or “Dirty Thursday” in Zug. Chesslete, a noisy tradition that starts at five in the morning, marks the start of the festival. During “Guggenmusik” and other festivities, the region and city transform into a vibrant sea of colour. Carnival fool’s celebrations last until Shrove Tuesday. Then, according to tradition, festivities drive away winter or the devil.
Appenzell: Appezöller Faschned – Feb 24 – 26, 2022
Appenzell will turn the tables in 2022 with its Vecheti Wölt theme. It means that the parades will remain in place while the spectator’s walkabout! As a result, Saturday’s “parade” can be held without crowds.
There are some unique costumes for the Appenzell Carnivale for children, not found anywhere else. Be on the lookout for children riding makeshift horses dressed in old firefighter gear: Botzerössli.
Broc: Carnaval de Broc – Feb 24 – 26, 2022
The Carnaval de Broc attracts visitors from all over Switzerland for the 44th time in a row. About 30 floats and groups take part in the main parade.
Sion: Carnaval de Sion – Feb 24 – 27, 2022
As part of the 46th edition of the famous Sion Carnival , the clever theme of “PROHIBI SION” will occur. Numerous festivities occur during the four days, including a children’s parade on Sunday.
St. Gallen: Carnival – February 24 – March 1, 2022
It’s no secret that the carnival people in St. Gallen are charming to their best citizens during carnival season. On Saturday, February 26, one honorary resident with Födle, Herz und Humor, is nominated as a Födlebürger. The Vadian memorial ceremony features a giant confetti cannon blasting the winner. (the criteria are as crucial as “butt or tenacity, soul, and comedy.”)
Solothurn: Fasnacht Solothurn Carnival – February 24 – March 2, 2022
Solothurn’s carnival usually lasts for an entire week. Shops and local businesses decorate their display windows in response to the occasion and craziness.
Despite the reduced carnival events in 2022, the legendary GUSO band night on Friday will continue. Solothurn’s street and alleys will be full with 14 local Gugge bands exclusively at this time. Take a walk, and you’re bound running into a costume band or group.
Locarno: Stranociada Carnival – Feb 25 – 26, 2022
Locarno will host the Stranociada Carnival starting at 6 p.m. on Friday. Carnival name is a local dialect word that means “strong eyes”. Beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, there will be a risotto booth, King Pardo II, and plenty of colourful confetti.
Fribourg: Bolzenfasnacht – February 25 – March 1, 2022
During Bolzenfasnacht , Fribourg’s old town turns upside down. Bolzen refers to the people who live in the Au area of Lower Fribourg. French, Swiss-German, and Standard German are magically mixing in one language in most households in those parts. Really, not a joke.
