For your convenience, we gathered the most significant events in Switzerland in March, which are worth visiting.
We are slowly ending the Carnival season, with a big carnival event ending today in Basel.
Engadin Ski marathon 12/03/2023
St. Moritz
There’s still time to register for the 53rd Engadin Skimarathon on March 12, Switzerland’s largest cross-country skiing event and the second largest in the world.
You can explore the Engadin on skis. The Skimarathon has been held annually since 1969. From Maloja to S-chanf, hundreds of skiers descended the route on the second Sunday in March. The Engadin Half-Marathon 14th edition this year, the Engadin Women’s Race, and the Engadin Night Race are among the other programs. The Grisons High Valley attracts over 14,000 cross-country fans from over 65 countries.
Over 42 kilometres, it starts in Maloja. Then, the route passes through Sils Maria, Silvaplana, St. Moritz, Pontresina, Samedan, Bever, Madulain, Zuoz, and ends at S-chanf. There are some great skiing opportunities here, so take advantage of them.
Rock the Pistes Festival 12/03/2023 till 18/03/2023
Portes du Soleil
This event is definitely for the most adventurous ones! Rock the Pistes returns from March 12 until March 18, offering an incredibly unique experience combining music with skiing on the Portes du Soleil ski slopes.
Because of its unique location on the Portes du Soleil ski slopes, Rock the Pistes is an exclusive festival. As a result, skiers are treated to a sensory experience that combines their sport with sound throughout the week-long event. In addition to some of the biggest names in the Franco-Swiss and international pop-rock scene, the festival draws enthusiastic skiers and music lovers alike.
Five headlining concerts will be held on the ski slope between France and Switzerland in the middle of the day, only accessible by ski lift. Moreover, visitors can participate in these ethereal concerts on skis against the backdrop of the most breathtaking landscapes. Over thirty Après-Ski concerts are held in the Portes du Soleil resorts, along with the five main live music performances during the day.
Fribourg International Film Festival 17/03/2023 till 26/03/2023
Esplanade de l’Ancienne-Gare 3, Fribourg
Fribourg International Film Festival will hold its 37th edition from March 17 to March 26, 2023.
Annually, this event takes place in the medieval old city of Fribourg. The festival aims to promote international quality films and contribute to the cultural diversity of Switzerland and Europe as a whole. The festival holds two main competitions: one for long international movies and one for short international films.
A total of twelve new productions are displayed yearly from Asia, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe, selected for their ability to captivate the audience and demonstrate film innovation. The only requirement for a film is its quality, and there are no limitations on its style. Participants can defend their films in Fribourg and compete for prizes worth 70.000 Swiss Francs.
In the case of international short films, all directors are invited to present their work in Fribourg. It offers viewers a broader look at the next wave of talent and supports the following big names.

Camellia Festival 29/03/2023 till 02/04/23
Locarno, Ticino
The city of Locarno will host the Camellia Festival starting on March 29th till April 02nd.
During this time, the city is becoming a central and unique place hosting concerts, and the main event, the Locarno Camellia exhibition.
The Camellia exhibition in Locarno is one of the most important events of its kind in Europe, with over 200 varieties of this flower exquisitely arranged by master gardeners.
Cultural events and side events are part of the program. The Camellia Park will be open daily to all visitors. Over 950 varieties of camellias are housed in the park, part of the “Gardens of Switzerland” network.

Cover Festival 30/03/2023 till 02/04/2023
Davos
The Davos Cover Festival is known for rocking days in the snow and pure nightlife. Concerts are held almost every hour of the day. The Parsennhütte ski area, Bolgen Plaza in après-ski mode, Montanasaal or Bolgenschanze in the evening. In the Steigenberger Grandhotel Belvédère, you can also experience special rhythms “unplugged”. Also, at Hotel Alpengold, you can experience “dinner shows”.
Davos Cover Festival will feature tribute bands performing hits by their idols, from Cure to Queen and the Beatles.
