Seat change fees for Swiss and Lufthansa
After June 21, there will no longer be a free choice of seats in Economy Light. Therefore, Swiss and Lufthansa will charge seat change fees. You must pay for the change of your seat if you are not happy with the one assigned.
Swiss and Lufthansa customers might not be pleased with this innovation. Tagesanzeiger reports that on European routes and within Switzerland, the airlines will automatically allocate seats in economy light class starting on June 21. Changing for example from the middle seat to the window will cost you extra.. These changes aim to distinguish Economic Light from Economic Classic, the next higher seat class.
Spicy 30 CHF
Customers from Switzerland should pay 30 francs per route, US citizens should pay 30 dollars, and EU citizens should pay 25 euros. The partner company Lufthansa is responsible for those changes. The new system imposes further restrictions on tickets with already reduced services for passengers who book with Swiss or Lufthansa Economy Light. However, the price model of the change fee for a different seat is not new. Swiss and Lufthansa are thus following a pricing model already used by low-cost airlines.
What is your opinion over changes by Swiss and Lufthansa to charge change of seat fees?
