Three out of four Swiss can afford the summer holiday
According to the latest Allianz Partners Travel Confidence Study, Swiss travellers are eager to go on vacation this summer. However, the costs are on the rise. Approximately 23%, three out of four Swiss can afford the summer holiday this season.
How about free travel to the Mediterranean? Probably not. As Allianz Partners’ Travel Confidence Study published a few days ago shows, new concerns are emerging. First, there is a new monetary obstacle restricting travellers as the world moves away from the Covid-19 restrictions. According to the second International Travel Confidence Study of 9,107 participants in nine countries, the uncertain economic situation is the biggest challenge for travellers this summer.
Since the impact of the pandemic on daily life is declining in most countries around the world, the study found that confidence in the ability to travel has increased significantly since last winter. Almost 8 out of 10 Swiss expect to be able to travel this summer. Swiss people look forward to the summer holidays very much.
Nearly half of the individuals surveyed reduced their expectations for their summer holidays due to high travel costs and personal finances. The adjusted travel budget or destination is a result of this adjustment.
According to the Allianz study, most people not planning a summer vacation this year say they cannot afford it because of rising living and travel costs. In Switzerland, however, this percentage is relatively small compared to other countries at 23%.
In most countries, concerns about the ongoing health crisis are the second most likely obstacle to a successful summer vacation. Only in Switzerland and Germany is the war in Ukraine more worrying than the uncertainty surrounding Covid-19.
Let’s hit the beach!
During the pandemic, the trend of rediscovering one’s own country also appeared among the Swiss population. However, as borders open, they are drawn abroad again; 57% of Swiss plan to travel abroad this summer, according to the study. The Austrians only exceed this value with 58%: the Italians and the Spanish fall on the other side of the table. Four out of five Italians plan to spend the summer holidays in their own country.
Relaxation is the top summer vacation goal. The Swiss are no different in this regard.
Considering the global economic, health, and geopolitical crises, it is no surprise that respondents in every country except Spain cite their primary goal for summer vacation as a relaxing, rejuvenating vacation. The need for a beach holiday or time in nature comes second place. Finally, around a third of those surveyed spend most of their holidays with family and friends.
