Switzerland Hotel Overnight Stays
Switzerland hotel overnight stays have increased significantly by welcoming 57% more guests in June 2022.
The number of overnight guests increased by 60% in June compared to last year. As a result, there was an increase in demand, especially among foreign guests.
A renewed increase in foreign guest demand benefited hotels most of all.
As a result of the Corona-related crash of previous years, the tourism sector continues to recover. In June, Swiss hotels hosted more than three and a half million overnight guests, up 60% from the same month last year. The increase is almost 50% in the first six months of this year.
According to the Federal Statistical Office (BFS), overnight stays increased by 57.3 % in June compared to the same month last year to 3.59 million. Foreign guests were the most crucial factor in the hotels’ success. Foreign guests increased by more than two-thirds (+240%), while local guests have grown by only 6.9%.
Significant increase
Swiss hotels booked 16.9 million overnight stays in the first half of 2022, a significant increase over the first half of 2021. The increase over the same period last year was 47.3%. Overnight stays in the first half of 2019 were 18.8 million before the Corona pandemic. Local guests (10.0 million) grew by 8.0%, while foreign visitors (6.9 million) increased by 213%.
