Golden Pass Express launch set for December
In addition to the Glacier and Bernina Express railways, a new panoramic express railway service will be available in Switzerland. The GoldenPass Express is set to launch on December 11, providing a non-stop connection between Montreux – Gstadt – Interlaken.
The GoldenPass Express offers a breathtaking view of the Swiss mountains
As of December 11, the new panoramic train service will be operated by Montreux Oberland Bernois Railway Company (MOB). It will connect Montreux on Lake Geneva with Gstaad and Interlaken via the GoldenPass railway line through the Alps.
In September 2021, the service had been planned for September 2021, but the COVID pandemic delayed its launch. On December 11, the first train will leave Interlaken West at 9.08 am, while the second will leave Montreux station at 9.35 am. Visitors can continue their journey to Bern or Lucerne from Interlaken or Lausanne using the public transport services from Montreux.
New trains designed for the new Swiss panoramic rail service
GoldenPass Express will connect without change three high places of Swiss tourism: Montreux, Gstaad and Interlaken. Designed by the MOB and developed and manufactured by Alstom, the variable gauge bogie will make it possible to switch from a meter gauge (1 m) to a standard gauge (1 m 435). For many years this was not technologically possible to create. The idea of Golden Pass Express existed from the beginning of the last century, but only now do the possibilities appear.
This 100% Swiss technological know-how will allow the company to offer customers an extraordinary experience.
The journey will take 3h15, allowing travellers to enjoy great comfort while exploring extraordinary landscapes. There is something for everyone, not only in the first and second classes but also in the prestige class. Guests can enjoy a catering service based on local products aboard this train built by Stadle and designed by Pininfarina.
The company is getting ready to spoil any traveller onboard.
There will be only one service each way until June 10, 2023. Nevertheless, the MOB expects to increase the number of round trip days from June 11 2023.
