A national competition kicks off the UNWTO Students League in Switzerland in 2022
SECO and UNWTO are teaming up to foster young talent development through the first National UNWTO Students’ League-Switzerland in 2022, following the success of the first two editions that attracted around 1,000 students worldwide.
A joint initiative between the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) has launched the first UNWTO students’ League of the year.
The Students League promotes local talent development and works with young people to design solutions for tourism’s most pressing challenges. Throughout the competition, students can learn from top tourism experts from their countries and worldwide. After a first round at the national level, the League will conclude with a Grand Global Final, which an international jury will judge.
UNWTO and SECO have partnered to foster young talent development in Switzerland by hosting the first National 2022 UNWTO Students’ League-Switzerland with around 1,000 students worldwide in the previous two editions.
Competition
As in past years, students from middle school to Master’s degree levels created innovative sustainable solutions for global hot topics. Many topics were addressed, including managing mass tourism, reducing single-use plastics in destinations and accommodations, creating digital communication solutions, and fostering rural development through tourism. In this year’s ‘Off the Beaten Track Challenge’, students from across Switzerland will have a chance to prove why their voices should be heard.
The registration period for undergraduate tourism and hospitality students from Switzerland – up to the age of 25 – ends on 4 October 2022.
The winning team will be announced after the live Final4 competition, which will be co-organized with the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW).
