World’s Longest Passenger Train – Guinness World Record
With a trip through one of the most spectacular tracks in the Alps, a Swiss railway company (Rhaetian Railway) claimed the world’s longest passenger train record last Saturday. Known now as the World’s Longest Passenger Train, it declared its title in the Guinness World Record.
From Preda to Berguen, the Rhaetian Railway operated the 1.9-kilometre-long train with 100 coaches. In 2008, UNESCO designated the route a World Heritage Site, which passes through 22 tunnels and 48 bridges, including the Landwasser Viaduct.
It took over an hour to complete the journey. In the Alps, the train’s 25 sections wound their way about 25 kilometres (15.5 miles) through the valley, watched by rail enthusiasts. In a statement, Rhaetian Railway director Renato Fasciati said the record attempt was intended to celebrate 175 years of Swiss railways and highlight Switzerland’s engineering achievements.
World’s Longest Passenger Train from Rhaetian Railway truly deserved the title in the Guinness World Record Book.
