Flixtrain expands in Switzerland with Basel-to-Berlin service
Flixtrain expands in Switzerland with Basel-to-Berlin service for 10 CHF.
Flixtrain, a German transport provider, will start operating in Switzerland on June 23. One of the low-cost provider’s cheap fares is a 10 CHF (10 euro) ticket from Basel to Berlin.
Over the past few years, the low-cost carrier Flixtrain has established itself as a significant competitor to Deutsche Bahn in Germany.
The Basel lines will run Thursday through Monday. In addition, the new line will be added to the increasing number of destinations in Germany, which is reaching about 70 in total.
Basel will be the only Swiss destination for now. There are also two new routes from Stuttgart to Hamburg and Berlin to Weisbaden.
Besides the 10 CHF (10 euro) ticket from Basel to Berlin, other journeys in Germany will begin at 5 CHF (5 euros).
Since the fares are likely to be promotional, it is unclear how much they will cost when the service launches.
At present, tickets between Basel and Berlin can cost as much as CHF150 or 160 euros from SBB or Deutsche Bahn.
But what is Flixtrain?
The company is part of Flixmobility; its headquarters are in Munich, Germany.
The company was founded in 2011 and has since expanded across Germany and much of Europe.
In 2017, the company launched Flixtrain. Although smaller than Deutsche Bahn, its train offering is still relatively small: With nine bright green trains, it competes against more than 300 high-speed (ICE) trains.
