Swiss Hotels are allowed to offer room rates cheaper than online platforms
According to the Federal Council, hotels can offer lower prices on their websites than on booking platforms. Swiss hotels are allowed to offer room rates cheaper than online platforms.
The legal situation regarding the pricing of hotel rooms on the hotel’s website will change as of December 1. 1, 2022.
Hotel rooms can now be booked on their websites at a lower price than on booking platforms following a decision by the Federal Council on November 16. According to Wednesday’s announcement, the federal law against unfair competition (UWG) will take effect on December 1.
Hotels and online platforms cannot use parity clauses in their corporate agreements as synchronizing availability, and prices are part of this process.
Under the new regulation, hotels and other accommodation providers can offer rooms on their websites at lower prices than on platforms like Booking.com. According to the Federal Council, this strengthens their competitiveness. On June 17, 2022, the law got amended by parliament. Referendums were not held against these changes.
