According to the report, domestic visitors increased by 21.3 per cent (+2.2 million).
Thus, the country has outperformed its pre-pandemic levels in summer hotel occupancy. During August, Zurich, Basel, and Geneva were the main urban destinations that saw the most significant tourists.
With the increased overnight stays in Switzerland for the summer period, there is an expectation that the number will decrease as the country’s entry rules tighten in the months to come.
New Requirements
The new requirement is that all travellers arriving in Switzerland must present a negative COVID-19 test result to curtail the spread of this disease and the new Omicron variant. Even individuals who have been fully vaccinated or recovered from the virus are subject to this new rule. Furthermore, those who intend to present a rapid antigen test should note that the results no longer need to be older than 24 hours, whereas PCR tests need to be no longer than 72 hours.
We hope to present the same positive trend when the new report from FSO comes with the figures for this upcoming winter.
