Great Expectations, 2022 will be a big year for luxury travellers and travel advisors. Travel advisors assist luxury travellers with planning their once-in-a-lifetime trips. As a result, they are willing to spend a great deal on their travels.
In a new survey by Flywire, 72 % of luxury travellers said they were spending more on vacations than they did before the pandemic. In addition, most luxury travellers believe that travel advisors are the best way to get a personalized vacation experience due to the complexity of travel due to the pandemic.
The research shows, 92% and 91% of luxury clients preferred to travel on airlines and stay at accommodations that required vaccines.
The survey also found that 77% of luxury travellers will be taking more extended vacations in the future than they did 18 months ago, and 93% intend to check cancellation policies before booking.
78% of respondents indicated that travel is more important to them now than pre-pandemic. Travellers between 18-34 and 35-54 are especially eager to explore after years of being confined. 2022 will be a big year for luxury travellers
“The travel industry has been riding a tidal wave of starts and stops for the past two years due to COVID-19,” said Colin Smyth, vice president and general manager of Travel at Flywire. “However, with rising vaccination rates and borders reopening, travellers have renewed confidence, and luxury travellers, in particular, have expressed the desire to leverage savings that accumulated during COVID-19’s lockdown to create unforgettable experiences.”
According to the survey, travellers will spend an average of nearly CHF 5,000 per person on each trip by next summer. That means expectations will also rise. Travellers expect hassle-free and unique experiences.
The importance of the travel advisors
The luxury traveller seeks out travel advisors with deep connections to global luxury suppliers, accommodation providers, tour operators, and DMC’s.
As one traveller summed it up to Flywire, “one call does it all.”
The majority of travellers believe that only a travel advisor can provide an unforgettable experience. A Flywire survey shows 74% of luxury travellers believe that a knowledgeable advisor is essential for providing an authentic luxury experience. Some 66% said they couldn’t imagine travelling without an advisor.
Providers should focus on creating guests’ experiences that set them apart while also keeping COVID-19 safety a priority. As a result of COVID-19 and ever-changing travel regulations, 88% of travellers surveyed believe travel advisors are more important now.
Other benefits that travellers seek from advisors, such as easy payment (87%) and knowledge of travel restrictions (55%). There is also a desire for problem-solving abilities (54%) and peace of mind (50%). 2022 will be a big year for luxury travellers
