Eventful October around Switzerland
Every month we wish to give you an overview of as many as possible happenings in different parts of Switzerland.
Also, we just realized that last year we published our first article giving you this kind of information on the first of October. Should we consider it a birthday for us? Guess not, we are going to plan a unique article, just to celebrate our achievements in year one of our existence.
So here we go! Our selection of events we prepared for you! We are giving you information about events in chronological order, so read till the end; you may find some events coming at the end, even in the same cities.
ZFF – Zurich Film Festival
22nd September – 2nd October 2022, Zurich
Last month we missed the opportunity to cover this event. but now even only two more days left, do not miss it.
Global filmmakers are showcased at the Zurich Film Festival. Around 160 films are screened over 11 days at the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) every fall, drawing thousands of movie enthusiasts and media professionals. By presenting work by young, emerging filmmakers from around the world and encouraging the exchange of ideas between established filmmakers and new talent, the Zurich Film Festival seeks to engage larger audiences. Ascona Autumn Festival
01 October, Ascona Lakeside
This autumn festival offers a chance to explore Ticino’s past culture, traditions, and customs.
This historical event offers the opportunity to sample the typical specialities of Ticino’s valleys, observe the manual skills of grandparents, and interact with them in their daily lives. A specific market with handicrafts and local flavours will be held. On Saturday, 1st October, the festival will take place on Ascona’s lakeside;
Ascona Chesnut Festival
8th October, Ascona Lakeside
Under the watchful eye of the “Maronatt” experts, the scent of chestnuts cooking on the fire is irresistible.
The theme market completes the postcard’s picture-perfect image, inviting guests to purchase local products and handicrafts at Borgo’s shops. The festival will take place on Ascona’s lakeside on Saturday, 8th October;
Cheese Festival
Various locations and dates around Switzerland
We decided to share the marvellous Cheese Festival in the middle of our list.
During October, cheesemakers from all the regions come together at various locations around the country to celebrate the famous cheese festival. During these celebratory gatherings, they offer Switzerland’s largest selection of cheeses. In addition, enjoy the numerous cheese delicacies in many locations spread around the country.

- Huttwil – 1st and 2nd October
- Tuna – 8th and 9th October
- Fondue experience under the first full moon of Autumn – taking place in various restaurants, mainly in canton Bern ( check the list of sites participating in the event.
- Lucerne – 15th October
- Bern – 29th October
- Appenzell – 29th and 30th October
- Rapperswile -Jona – 5th November

DA Z – Digital Art Zurich
October 20 – 30, 2022
Back in Zurich, in DA Z, digital forms of avant-garde art are showcased in a contemporary and socially relevant manner.
DA Z, or Digital Art Zurich, is an art festival in Zurich in the fall. As part of the festival, well-known institutions, such as the Museum für Gestaltung and the music club Moods, will be transformed into stages for digital art.
There will be exhibitions, installations, interventions, video screenings, performances, concerts, and talks as part of the program. Festival participants will be able to engage in a discourse about global social developments and the impact of digitalization on everyday life in the form of high-quality artistic performances.

And last but not least for all sports lovers!
Lausanne Marathon
23rd October, Lausanne
Between Lausanne and La Tour-de-Peilz, in a unique and magnificent setting that is part of UNESCO World Heritage, some 13,600 joggers will set off on 23rd October. For early birds because registrations are limited. You can choose among several lengths: marathon, semi-marathon, 10 km for running or Nordic/walking.
Due to its friendly atmosphere, stunning scenery, and eclectic style, the Lausanne Marathon has become an internationally renowned event. The route crosses the city, along the coast of Lake Geneva, and through the UNESCO-listed vineyards of Lavaux. Participants choose their distance and discipline. Each nominee competes against their own personal best each nominee competes against their own personal best. In addition, the Olympic capital is home to an ever-growing number of enthusiastic spectators who come to cheer on their champions.
