It’s even possible to sleep on straw in a farmer’s barn. The unique accommodation options around Switzerland are many.
For obvious reasons, not all these options are available all year round (it would get a bit chilly sleeping on straw in a Swiss winter! ), but it is still exciting to know all the results from our research.

A hotel on stilts – Hotel Palafitte, Neuchatel
Water views are always a highlight, and the ones from Hotel Palafitte’s rooms are among the best. This hotel is the only luxury 5-star hotel in Europe built on stilts. Overlooking the name-giving lake in Neuchâtel, the Hotel Palafitte offers 40 luxurious rooms with lake views.
All 24 Lake Pavilion rooms offer beautiful views of the lake from their private balconies and bathtubs. In addition, each one has direct access to the lake via a small ladder from the private terrace.

A wine barrel hotel – Wine Barrel Hotel Rüedi, Trasadingen

Barrels are relatively recent additions to the Rüedi family’s estate, where grapes are grown by sixth-generation Rüedis. Guests can enjoy the wines at the on-site wine bar, open daily from 3 pm. On their website, owners offer packages for wine lovers and adventure seekers.
A historic bridge’s tollhouse hotel – Hotel Zollhaus, Bern
In the Swiss capital Bern, the Nydeggbrucke (Nydegg Bridge) spans the turquoise River Aare, where a former toll house is now serving as a tiny hotel. A stay at Hotel Zollhaus is for sure unique – your travelling companion and yourself will be the only guests. However, while there may be no other guests, comfort is sure to be there.
