So for you, we have only couple more suggestions and bear in mind, that we tried on purpose to avoid the best-known places like Zermatt or Sankt Moritz. It was a difficult choice to make.
So here we go,
Stein am Rhein
With its medieval architecture, Stein am Rhein is probably one of the prettiest Christmas towns in Switzerland. However, when the streets where the Christmas Market is taking place start decorating with different fairytale themes every year, Christmas becomes a magical fantasy for all generations. Explore the Marliweg, a trail through the town dedicated to the year’s story, to discover hidden chambers.
The magic of Christmas at Stein am Rhein doesn’t stop there. In the former Benedictine monastery of the town, St Georgen Abbey, a medieval market displays costumed characters performing trades in period costumes. It is a real and atmospheric Christmas adventure featuring medieval-style food and drink. Very Last Minute Holiday suggestions
St Gallen
In addition to being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, St Gallen is one of Switzerland’s top Christmas destinations because of the handcrafted decorations the locals put up.
During the festive season, St. Gallen lightning with 700 stars strung above the streets. Combined with the world’s tallest Christmas tree, outside the town’s cathedral, they create a genuinely stunning Christmassy atmosphere.
Three Christmas Markets are held in St Gallen each year. Three events take place in Bohl, one at Waaghous, and one in the Marktplatz, but Santa Claus and his helpers are one of the town’s most popular events. Children and adults enjoy Santa and his elves riding through town during a procession called the Chlausritt, which makes Christmas in St Gallen genuinely unique.
Be sure to visit the St Gallen Old Town and Abbey district as well as the Abbey of St Gallen, which houses Switzerland’s oldest library.
Every town and every little village in this beautiful country has a story to tell and things to offer, so try to make the best of this Holiday season. Where ever you go, you will not make a mistake. Everywhere you will find people willing to share, advise and guide you through your Holiday journey.
Happy Holidays!
